Jury Finds Depue Guilty Of Killing Retired Teacher

Post  Scouse on Fri Jun 20, 2008 3:04 pm

SAN ANTONIO -- A Bexar County jury on Thursday found a man guilty of killing a retired school teacher.

Jurors deliberated for more than four hours before finding Jonathan Depue guilty of fatally wounding Aleta Rhodes during a 2006 burglary.

The shooting took place after Rhodes returned home unexpectedly and found Depue and two cousins burglarizing her home.

Rhodes died of a gunshot wound to the head, which Eric Depue, the defendant's brother, testified was fired by his sibling.

But defense lawyers argued that Eric Depue was the actual triggerman. Eric Depue testified that he only drove the getaway car.

The sentencing phase of the trial begins Friday.

Prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty.
