FL- Supreme Court upholds death sentence for Spann

Post  Jennie on Sun Jul 06, 2008 10:31 pm

The Florida Supreme Court has upheld a ruling that affirmed a murder conviction and death sentence for Anthony Spann, 1 of 2 men who kidnapped and murdered a West Palm Beach woman.

Spann and another man, Lenard Philmore, kidnapped Kazue Perron from a driveway in Palm Beach Gardens in 1997, drove her to Martin County in her Lexus and shot her in the forehead.

They left her body in an Indiantown canal. Philmore confessed that he and Spann planned the carjacking and killing so they would have a nice car to use while robbing banks.

Spann had appealed his conviction, saying among other things that the trial judge should not have admitted certain expert testimony and failed to consider all the mitigating evidence during the penalty phase.

Both Spann and Philmore are on death row.
