LEBANON:

State prosecutor seeks death penalty in slaying of '2 Ziads'

State Prosecutor Saeed Mirza announced his findings Tuesday in the case of the slaying of 12-year-old Ziad Ghandour and 25-year-old Ziad Qabalan, whose bodies were found dumped near a road south of Beirut several days after their disappearance last April.

Mirza requested the death penalty for 5 of the suspects, brothers Mohammad, Shehada, Abdullah, Abbas and Ali Shamas, who are accused of killing Ghandour and Qablaan in retaliation for Ghandour's alleged role in the death of their brother Adnan Shamas during clashes at the Beirut Arab University last year.

A total of 19 people have been implicated in the crime, of which only 4 have been apprehended by authorities.

The 5 main suspects have been missing since the date of the crime. The Judicial Council, the highest court in Lebanon, has not yet set a date for the trial.
